Start with one neighborhood, not the whole island
The mistake is trying to cover San Juan and the west in a day. Pick a cluster — Calle Loíza, Río Piedras, or Mayagüez Pueblo — and walk it properly. Los buenos hallazgos toman tiempo, not mileage.

Weekdays beat weekends
Restocks tend to land midweek and the racks are still full. Saturday means picked-over inventory and parking that will ruin your mood. If you can only go weekend, go at opening.

Know what you're walking into
Thrift, consignment and curated vintage price completely differently. A consignment shop with designer pieces is not the place to hunt $8 tees. Each HALLA profile says what the store actually is, so you don't waste the trip.

Check for humidity damage
This is the Caribbean. Inspect underarms, elastic waistbands and leather. Musty smell usually washes out; yellowing and dry-rot elastic don't.

Follow the shops on Instagram
Most sellers here announce drops, pop-ups and market days on IG before anything hits the floor. It's genuinely the difference between a good day and an empty rack.

Bring cash and ATH Móvil
Cards work in most storefronts. Pop-ups and market stalls, not always. Ten algo en efectivo.

Owners here will tell you when the next drop is, what's in the back, and which other store nearby carries what you're after. Nobody gatekeeps — and neither do we.
